Shrimps Pot Recipe A La Gazan

Shrimps Pot Recipe

So for the past few years I met loads of friends from Palestine and specifically Gaza, these people live by the sea and love the fruits it offers them. According to my colleague he made us his dads special shrimps pot and it was a pleaser for the whole crowd at lunch (pre covid19 life). I immediately asked him for the recipe and kept it around for trials of my own. The ingredients were simple and yet so rich and satisfying as an end result, so here is what you need:

  • 1/2 Kilo Shrimps peeled and chopped (medium to small)
  • 1/2 Kilo Tomatoes diced quite small
  • 2 Bell Peppers diced (any color goes)
  • 1 Green Chili Diced
  • 4-6 Cloves of garlic
  • 1 Onion (medium sized) diced
  • Tomato Paste (optional)
  • 1Tsp Ground Cumin
  • 1Tsp Ground Coriander
  • Salt
  • 1Tsp Ground cloves
  • 1Tsp Ground Black Pepper
  • 1Tsp Garlic powder
  • 1Tsp Paprika
  • Cardamom 5 to 6 pods
  • A squeeze of Lemon juice
  • A sprinkle of Lemon Salt
  • Toasted sesame seeds (optional)
  • Roasted nuts (optional)

You start by tossing the veggies with a dash of olive oil with the spices (or any oil/ghee you prefer) and leave them to simmer and add a cup of water. Boil the veggies until they reduce then add the shrimps with a couple of sesame seed spoons and let them simmer till the shrimps are fully cooked. Pour into a clay pot and put it in the over with a sprinkle of nuts or sesame seeds on top for 10 minutes (or till it becomes a little thicker).

Enjoy with a hot loaf of bread or some pita bread, whichever sails your boat!
